New Zealand Bamboo Society
19th Annual conference and AGM
was held at
Matakana
22nd-24th February 2008
THE WINTERLESS NORTH WAS WET !!
The annual meeting was based at "Taraire", the home of John & Janet Rogers, Matakana
We also visited John & Marjorie Lok, Dargaville
Friday 22 February
Some of us who like to gather the night before and talk lots met up at "Taraire", and shared an evening meal.
Saturday 23 February
We drove to John & Marjorie Lok's place at Dargaville, approx 2 hours from "Taraire".
We gathered at Lok's for morning tea.
Then we walked around their house to look at some ornamental bamboos, visited their nursery to see bamboos planted on an island and used as shelter.
We took a quick look at palms and cycads.
John & Marjory served us a palatial lunch at their home.
Then we returned to Matakana where the rain had soaked the ground so well that the idea of cooking dinner in a hangi was abandoned....
However we still enjoyed a fantastic evening of talking, eating... and learning about bamboo flutes.
Sunday 24 February
As it was raining we started with the AGM
Then we had a spirited plant auction..... followed by lunch.
After lunch we took a walk around the bamboos at "Taraire", positioning labels as we went. There were 80 varieties to look at.
